Natural Ingredients in Skincare
A brief guide to common natural ingredients you may find in Czech and European skincare products.
Many Czech cosmetics brands use plant-based and natural ingredients. Understanding what these ingredients do can help you choose products that suit your skin.
Herbal Extracts
Brands like Botanicus use herbs grown in their own gardens. Chamomile, calendula and lavender are often used for their soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Nettle and rosemary may appear in products aimed at oily or congested skin. Always check the full ingredient list if you have allergies.
Plant Oils
Oils such as sunflower, almond, argan and jojoba are common in natural skincare. They can help support the skin barrier and provide moisture. Heavier oils (e.g. some nut oils) may suit dry skin better; lighter oils are often used for combination or oily skin.
Beeswax and Honey
Beeswax is used as a natural emulsifier and to add texture. Honey has humectant and mild antibacterial properties. Both appear in many Czech natural products. If you are vegan, check whether a product is suitable.
Thermal Water and Salt
Czech brands sometimes use ingredients from local spas, such as Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary) thermal salt. These are traditionally associated with mineral-rich formulations. If you have sensitive skin, patch-test new products.
Practical Tips
Read the INCI list on the packaging to see exactly what is inside. Order of ingredients reflects concentration (higher amounts first). For more on how to use products in a routine, see our Skincare Routine Tips. For brand overviews, see Czech Skincare Brands.
