Skincare Routine Tips
Simple steps for a basic skincare routine and the order in which to apply products.
A basic routine can be kept simple: cleanse, optionally treat, moisturise, and protect from the sun. Below is a general order that works for many people.
Morning
Start with a gentle cleanser or water, depending on your skin type. If you use a treatment (e.g. vitamin C or niacinamide), apply it after cleansing on dry skin. Then apply a moisturiser if your skin needs it. Finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. This order helps treatments absorb and ensures protection.
Evening
Remove makeup and sunscreen with a cleanser suitable for your skin. If you use a treatment (e.g. retinol or acids), apply it after cleansing on dry skin, then wait a few minutes before the next step. Follow with a moisturiser or night cream. Eye cream, if you use one, can go before or after moisturiser.
Order of Application
As a rule: thinnest to thickest. So: cleanser, toner (if used), serum or treatment, moisturiser, sunscreen (morning). This helps each product work without blocking the next. If you use several actives, space them out or use them on alternate days to avoid irritation.
